So....

Once upon a time there was a little challenge listed on the sylum list. The charge was to create a fanmix that you felt conveyed some part of Sylum and the stories therein.

I took this challenge and I kicked it's ass. I present

A Sylum Fanmix with no clear theme/meaning

1. Stop & Stare—One Republic

You start to wonder why you’re here not there
And you’d give anything to what’s fair

I chose this one because, well, How many times have we all seen someone in love and stopped, stared and wondered why not me? How unfair. Un-mated vamps have to think that sometimes, yeah?

2. Life After You—Daughtry

All that I’m after is a life full of laughter, as long as I’m laughing with you
All that still matters is love ever after, after the life we’ve been through
Cause I know there’s no life after you

The irony of choosing this song is that if two vampires are mated, and one dies, we all know what happens. But at the same time, those vampires that find their mates, and then lose them before the bond have a difficult time, so really there is no life after them.

3. Gotta Be Somebody-Nickelback

This Time, I wonder what it feels like
To find the one in this life, the one we all dream of
But dreams just aren’t enough
So I’ll be waiting for the real thing, I’ll know it by the feeling
The moment when we’re meeting, will play out like a scene
Straight off the silver screen
So I’ll be holding my own breath, right up ‘til the end
Until that moment when, I find the one that I’ll spend forever with

Vampire or no, we have all wondering when that once in a lifetime love will find us, or we’ll find them. I think it must be frustrating to be a vampire and not find this person for sometimes centuries.

4. Wanted Dead or Alive-Bon Jovi

Sometimes I sleep, sometimes it's not for days
And the people I meet always go their separate ways
Sometimes you tell the day
By the bottle that you drink
And times when you're alone all you do is think

The quintessential Sylum song. This song could represent lots of people within Sylum. For some reason the Border guys come to mind though, wonder why? :D

5. Bleeding Love-Leona Lewis

But something happened
For the very first time with you
My heart melts into the ground

And everyone's looking round
Thinking I'm going crazy

But I don't care what they say
I'm in love with you
They try to pull me away
But they don't know the truth

For me, this song is about loving someone despite gender, race, whatever. The heart knows what it wants and screw the “norms” of society. It’s one of the things I love about Sylum.

6. No One-Alicia Keys

That it will only get better

Through the days and nights
I don't worry 'cause
Everything's going to be alright
People keep talking they can say what they like
But all I know is everything's going to be alright

Again, could be in relation to mates, could even be related to that feeling of family, which is a recurring theme in Sylum. Having that family and knowing that they are there to back you up no matter what.

There's a fear in me but it’s not showing
This could be the end of me

Oh but I won’t go

I call this the “If every turning, good or bad, had a theme song” song. Many of the vampires that are turned in Sylum are turned because they’re not done with their life, they have something to finish. It’s not their time.

8. Unusual You-Britney Spears

You got me all twisted and confused,

Up til now I thought I knew love
Nothing to lose and it's damaged 'cause
Patterns will fall as quick as I do

Could be a meeting the mate for the first time theme song, or even a twisted song about the damage that could be done during a forced bond. You decide.

9. Unmistakable-Backstreet Boys

This is definitely a dreaming about finding your mate song. How many vampires though the centuries saw someone and wondered if the person that their heart fluttered for was their mate or not?

10. Ghost of Me-Daughtry

Wait, there's no rhyme or reason
Sometimes there's no meaning in the visions when you're sleepin'

Alright, this one has two themes too. This could be a vampire dreaming about a lost mate before the bond was completed. Could be a song about a lost loved one that a vampire is still mourning. Or could be a vampire being haunted by the person that tortured and turned them. Again, you decide.

Yeah, this is totally a dreaming about lost mate, mate yet to be found or mate that’s away on whatever. Nuff said.

Strictly a mate song. Totally. All PDA aside, no one really knows how mates are together except the mated pair (or triad *wink*). Sometimes it makes the unmated a bit jealous, but nothing can compare to everything that Bryan Adams says about being with that one person (or persons) that completes you.

Yet another finding your mate song. Though for some, when their mate shows up, it’s a little hard to, well take and digest. Especially if that person has been batting firmly for one team and their mate plays for the other. But again, the heart and soul wants what it wants. Can’t fight that. Unless of course it’s a forced bonding.

Could be creepy stalker song. Could be a vampire who’d lost their mate and found them again song.

This one, well, we don’t know when our last day is but this song makes us think, what if?

'Cause you feel so supernatural

The bond that mates feel, the pull, the emotions, everything is felt in the bond. Sometimes that bond can over take a person who’s unprepared. Sometimes it can make a person feel lost when their mate is on the other side of the world. For some reason this song reminded me of the separation of Jack and Will.
